Temple (昭灵庙)Visit – Part 1

昭灵庙 had their retreat (闭关) last month and we visited them on 27 Oct to congratulate. Chinese believe in gifts when visiting and these are gifts we are presenting to them.

dsc04593.jpgIn this basket (花篮):

  • 5 oranges.  Not any fruits for example apples or pears.  Because oranges or mandarin oranges sounded and represent 吉
  • tea
  • wine
  • fragrant wood ( 香木) which will be lighted up as representing joss sticks

dsc04594.jpg In the other basket (花篮) are the 6 kinds of vegetarian offerings. There should be firecrackers too but since Singapore banned it, we used red packets (红包) as representative.  1 锦旗 was also sent to them earlier. The kind of gifts are not fixed but one thing to take note is that the number of gift items has to be even numbers.
